Korean Food | Galbi Tang | 갈비탕

Korean Food | Galbi Tang | 갈비탕

What’s perfect for a cold winter day?

Correct!!!

Galbi Tang | 갈비탕!

We went to Suwon to visit the market place as my mother would like to purchase korean utensils, pots, plates and more.

When done with purchasing, Mama asked Mr. Kim to take us to a delicious Galbi Tang restaurant. *whispers* It’s her favorite korean dish as it is served non-spicy. *smiles*

Fighting the chilly weather, we hurriedly walked about 3 blocks away from the market to the Galbi Tang restaurant.  We found the traditional restaurant and luckily, there were still seats left for us. Manse!

We were warmly greeted as we entered and straightly guided to our table. I always wanted to dine on a korean off-shoes floor-seated restaurant and viola! It was just like I wanted *happy*.

As this is a Galbi Restaurant, we didn’t have to wait that long for our order.  It came in less than five minutes on a steaming hot earthen pot.  Just the way I watched in Korean dramas.

*after taking the videos and photos*

Gulp! Gulp! Gulp!

Munch! Munch! Munch!

Siwonhada!!! (Refreshing!)

It was truly a delicious Galbi! It totally warmed our cold body and filled our empty stomach!!! Two thumbs up for this restaurant.

I would definitely visit them again! If only I can find where I kept the toothpick with their name and address on! *grins*

Thanks again for reading my blog and hope that you’ll visit again.

A walk around Hongdae

A walk around Hongdae

As one of the famous tourist’s spots, Hongdae is always busy especially when the sun starts to set.

Without any specific destination, we started walking to explore Hongdae.

This building looks like from medieval era. It's somewhat a museum, gallery and restaurant all in one place.

We were really tired from walking around Hongdae when we passed by Hakata [하카타] and caught by the really realistic food display. We popped in (glad we did) and we were mesmerized with the Japenese-Korean fused dishes. A must-try! We even returned at this place thrice. Thats how really great the food was.

Fashionable clothes are also for grabs at cheap prices. The only downside is it only fits a petite body =) as it is patterned on the skinny built of Koreans. You're lucky if you have small body built. My advise... lose weight before shopping clothes in Korea. =) [That is what I will do next time...ㅋㅋㅋㅋ]

We had a very interesting 8 hours walk (I think more than…) around Hongdae streets.  We actually didn’t notice the time passing as there’s tons of stuffs to see and experience.  It’s a good way to exercise during your travel in Korea.

A video will be posted next related to our walk.  Watch out for it!

Don’t miss and experience Hongdae for yourself on your visit to Korea.

This magical beeper is awesome =). Advertisement videos are playing while you wait for the beeper to go off =) when your order is ready. Good idea right? 대박이다! By the way, many tourists find this thing really strange and wonders what it is for. It's basically to call your attention that your order is ready and ready to be claimed on the counter. It beeps and sometimes vibrate. It is available mostly on cafes and fast food chains that doesn't serve your order on your table but rather needs claiming from the counter.

Kkanbu Chicken | 깐부 치킨

Kkanbu Chicken | 깐부 치킨

One of the must eat in Korea is none other than FRIED CHICKEN. Korea offers different varieties of fried chicken.  From soy sauce, sweet chilly, to sizzling hot flavors.

Fried chicken is usually coupled with alcohol.  But the famous partner is beer (맥주) and it is called Chimaek (치맥) short for Chicken and Beer.

As we have stayed along Hongdae (홍대) area, Chicken restaurants are everywhere.

And we found one just along side our guesthouse called  Kkanbu Chicken.

kkanbu-9

It has the atmosphere like Chillis and Fridays.kkanbu-2

When we visited, we saw groups of friends and families having fun while drinking and eating crispy fried  chicken.

kkanbu-3

On the ceiling, I noticed calligraphy writings. At first, I thought it was just for artsy decoration, but it turned out that it was the varieties of chicken the restaurant serves (fancy clever idea!).

kkanbu-4

The prices are very reasonable and I believe affordable for tourists.
kkanbu-6 kkanbu-7

Like any other restaurants, the menu is intentionally displayed outside to catch the attention of possible customers passing by around the area.

kkanbu-8

Cassy surely is happy holding up the chicken we bought.

kkanbu-10

The serving is enough to be eaten by 2 to 3 persons.

kkanbu-11

The fried chicken is truly crispy, tasty and juicy on the inside.

kkanbu-12 kkanbu-13

The pickles that came along with it, is really sweet and refreshing. And for me it is a perfect combo (although others would find it a bit weird).

kkanbu-14

As I said, it is a must-try.  Don’t miss this KFood Spot when you visit Korea.

Thanks again for reading my blog and hope that you’ll visit again.

Seaweed Laver (파래김)

One of my favorite food from Korea is Seaweed Laver or 파래김.  It’s super tasty and it partners up with anything. May it be rice, soup, noodles or just on its own.  Have you tried having it before? Did you like it or not?

GRANDMA’S SOONDAE SOUP (순대국)

GRANDMA’S SOONDAE SOUP (순대국)

It’s our first night in Korea.  We arrived late at Incheon airport and we took a big airport cab (due to our huge luggage) to our Hostel at Hongdae area.  After we checked in, we got hungry and decided to find a local restaurant around (of course we should eat korean food ^^ right?).  We walked along this road.Across the Street

And across the street, a big sign attracted me.  We crossed this huge pedestrian lane to get closer to the local restaurant.

Crossroad to the Restaurant

Big menu welcomed us, introducing their new dish.  We found it very enticing for a local korean food.  So we decided to enter.

Big menu are also posted outside the restaurant for passersby to see and catch their attention.

We were greeted happily by the staff and as soon as we sat.  These side dishes and water appeared before we even get to decide what to order.

Korean restaurants always serves side dishes along with your order and its free and unlimited.

And since it was our first dining experience during on this Korea tour, we first handed-ly experience the big menu on the wall (which was all in korean language of course). I had the privilege to use my korean language skills (ahahahhaha!).  After some deliberation (longggg deciphering of the caligraphy on the wall…ahehehe!), we placed our order (which was another challenge to order in korean language). Phew~

Most Local Korean Restaurant have their menu posted on their walls for easy access. However, it is written all in Korean unless it is an international restaurant.

We ordered for Coke but local drinks are being served on this restaurant.  We were offered this soda instead and fair enough it tastes really good.

Our order arrived steaming hot served on hot ceramic bowl.  Pretty exciting huh!? Looks appetizing, isn’t it?

The soup was delicious for me as it has a very refreshing taste, however, it is a bit spicy for me.  I can’t eat so spicy food (which was a down-er).  My mom and Cassy has the similar challenge with spicy food.  I bet spicy eaters will enjoy this soup especially on a winter day.

The other menu was the Bossam Special.  I enjoyed the wrapping experience and the vegetables are really fresh.  It seems like it was picked out of the field and served directly to our table  (I’m not over exaggerating here… Jinjjayeyo!).

Boiled Pork and Pork Sausages with vegetables and side dishes. Medium Size (for 3-4 people) (중) 22,000 Won / $22

My first dining experience was a blast.  My tummy was satisfied and my heart was filled with joy.  I finally got to taste real korean food cooked on its origin country, South Korea. (Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeyy!!!)

This is just the beginning of our One Month Vacation in Korea. (yes… you read it right! 1 Month).  Exciting!!!
