Breathing is the process that moves air in and out of the lungs. Inhale and exhale is the great exchange of life. Ad-Ora, John Paul the Great explains, is the root of adoration, being breath to breath with God. We only exhale the life we breathed in. God’s exhale gave us life.

And because we are made in His image, our exhale too gives life to other organisms. The plants breathe in the carbon dioxide we humans exhale. To those who believe that we are both body and soul, it is not unsound to think that our souls exhale too. In fact, it is reasonable to consider anything that exhibits absolute beauty as a representation of a soul’s expression of life, an exhale of a soul.

An unexamined life is not worth living. So, understand that we exhale not only because we must or we can, but because we are allowed to. It is a gift to be able to. Exhale while you can and give life. Give life to words, photos, crafts, and works of art… express your life, exhale your soul.
